Bhubaneswar- The Odisha government has undertaken a major reshuffle in its Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre, transferring and reassigning several senior officers with immediate effect. The move is seen as part of a strategic overhaul of the state’s law enforcement leadership, especially in the fight against left-wing extremism.
Senior IPS officer Sanjeeb Panda (1994 batch), who was earlier serving as Additional Director General (ADG) of Training and Director of the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA), has now been appointed as ADG, Anti-Naxal Operations. In his new role, Panda will head both the Special Intelligence Wing (SIW) and the Anti-Naxal Operations unit, reporting directly to the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha.
Anup Kumar Sahoo (2006 batch), currently serving as Inspector General (IGP), Training, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Director, BPSPA until further orders.
In a parallel swap, Akhileshvar Singh (2009 batch), who was DIG of Police, South Western Range (SWR), Koraput, has been moved to Bhubaneswar as DIG of Police, SIW. Taking his place in Koraput is Dr. Kanwar Vishal Singh (2010 batch), who was previously handling the SIW DIG post in Bhubaneswar.
These changes reflect the government’s focus on strengthening internal security and ensuring experienced leadership in sensitive regions affected by Naxal activities.
