Bhubaneswar- In a move to enhance the reach of welfare schemes among the city’s urban poor, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to begin a comprehensive ward-level survey under the ‘Sahajog’ initiative. The aim is to identify eligible beneficiaries and ensure they receive timely support from various state and central government schemes.
The initiative, which was launched in March this year, is currently being rolled out across 44 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in eight districts, using the Sahajog mobile app to streamline data collection and service delivery.
A training session was organized on Thursday for corporators of all 67 wards in Bhubaneswar, chaired by Mayor Sulochana Das. During the session, corporators were briefed on their role in mobilizing field staff, raising awareness, and directly engaging with urban communities to identify needy households.
Once identified, eligible residents will be assisted in availing schemes such as “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban)”, “NFSA ration cards”, “Ayushman Bharat”, “Subhadra Yojana”, “e-Shram card”, “Garima Scheme”, “Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana”, “PM Suraksha Bima Yojana”, “PM Vishwakarma Yojana”, and “Madhubabu Pension Yojana”, among others.
The survey will also link residents to basic utilities like piped water supply, identity documentation such as PWD cards, and social protection measures including labour cards.
By delivering services directly at the doorstep and simplifying access through digital tools, the Sahajog initiative aims to strengthen urban welfare delivery and bridge the gap between government schemes and underserved populations in Bhubaneswar.
