Bhubaneswar – With the arrival of the monsoon, Similipal National Park in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district will remain closed to visitors starting July 1. A notification regarding the closure was issued today by Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) Field Director Prakash Gogineni.
Despite the seasonal shutdown of the core areas, eco-tourism destinations located within the park—such as Jamuani, Gudagudia, Kumari, Barehipani, and Ramatritha—will remain open to tourists. The park authorities will announce a reopening date once weather conditions improve.
The park typically closes during the rainy season every year to ensure the safety of tourists and preserve the forest ecosystem, which is vulnerable during heavy rainfall.
In the 2024–25 financial year, Similipal welcomed a total of 38,483 visitors. Among them, 26,083 were from Odisha, 12,388 from other Indian states, and 12 were international tourists. Revenue generated from tourism included Rs1.22 crore from jungle safaris and Rs29.48 lakh from entry fees.
Additionally, the eco-tourism facilities inside the park brought in Rs2.75 crore, underlining their growing popularity among nature lovers.
Notably, Similipal Tiger Reserve was officially granted National Park status by the Odisha government in April this year, further boosting its conservation profile and ecological importance.
