New Delhi:- India’s digital reach continues to grow as nearly 97% of the country’s 6,44,131 villages now enjoy mobile network coverage, according to the latest data shared by the government. Of these, an impressive 6,14,564 villages have 4G connectivity as of September 30, 2024.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN), the Ministry of Tribal Affairs identified 4,543 habitations of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) without mobile coverage. So far, 1,136 of these habitations have been brought under mobile network coverage.

To further bridge the digital divide, the government has sanctioned 1,018 mobile towers under the Digital Bharat Nidhi initiative, focusing on rural, remote, and hilly areas, including PVTG settlements. With a budget of ₹1,014 crore, these projects aim to provide high-speed 4G connectivity to underserved regions.

This information was revealed by Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha today.
