Rourkela: The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has delivered a stellar performance across its major production units in the first four months of the financial year 2025-26, registering new records and setting fresh benchmarks for the April to July period.

One of the major highlights came from Blast Furnace-5, popularly known as ‘Durga’, which crossed the one million ton mark in hot metal output. It produced a remarkable 10,37,844 tonnes, surpassing its previous April–July best of 9,67,097 tonnes achieved in 2023. Not far behind, Blast Furnace-1 ‘Parvati’ also made history with its highest-ever April–July hot metal production at 3,61,774 tonnes, improving upon its earlier record of 3,16,199 tonnes from 2021. BF-1 also registered its best-ever monthly performance in July by tapping 94,015 tonnes.

In the steel melting section, Caster-III of Steel Melting Shop-II recorded its best-ever April–July output by producing 5,25,213 tonnes of slabs. On the downstream front, Hot Strip Mill-2 showcased exceptional efficiency, rolling a record 8,59,192 tonnes of slabs to produce 8,39,023 tonnes of HR Coils—its highest April–July performance to date. This exceeded the previous record of 8,17,675 tonnes set in 2024. The Sheet Shearing Line of HSM-2 also contributed significantly, producing 95,876 tonnes of HR plates—a new milestone for the first four months of any financial year.

The New Plate Mill (NPM) sustained the momentum with its best-ever April–July output, rolling 3,30,789 tonnes of plates, breaking its previous record of 3,10,317 tonnes achieved in 2021. NPM further impressed with a monthly high in July alone, rolling 92,099 tonnes. Matching this pace, the Plate Mill also achieved its best performance for the April–July period, rolling 1,78,752 tonnes of plates, narrowly surpassing its previous best of 1,77,226 tonnes set in 2023.

These achievements across multiple units underline RSP’s focus on consistent operational excellence and capacity utilization, setting the tone for a robust performance in the remaining months of FY 2025-26.
