New Dehli: During the 117th episode of “Mann Ki Baat”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spotlighted India’s significant achievements in healthcare, emphasizing the progress made in the fight against cancer and malaria.
Highlighting a pivotal milestone in cancer treatment, the Prime Minister referred to a study published in the prestigious “Lancet” medical journal. He stated, “In India, the chances of starting cancer treatment on time have increased substantially.” This success is largely attributed to the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which provides financial support for healthcare. PM Modi shared that 90% of cancer patients now receive treatment within 30 days, a transformative improvement from earlier years when financial constraints deterred many from seeking timely care.
The Ayushman Bharat Yojana has been instrumental in reducing financial burdens, empowering patients from economically weaker sections to undergo necessary screenings and treatments. “This scheme has become a pillar of support for the poor, enabling them to prioritize their health,” the Prime Minister remarked.
Malaria Cases Decline by 80%. PM Modi also commended India’s collective efforts in combating malaria, a disease that has plagued humanity for millennia. He highlighted a World Health Organization (WHO) report that noted an 80% reduction in malaria cases and deaths in India between 2015 and 2023.
The Prime Minister credited public participation and community-led initiatives for this success, citing examples like tea garden workers in Jorhat, Assam, and residents of Kurukshetra, Haryana, who used innovative methods, including social media and street plays, to raise awareness and reduce mosquito breeding.
“These remarkable achievements in healthcare reflect the power of collective action and the government’s commitment to improving public health,” PM Modi concluded.
