Puri (Odisha) -In a deeply disturbing incident, a Plus-2 girl student from Bayabar village in Nimapara block, Puri district, was allegedly set ablaze by unidentified miscreants on Saturday morning. The shocking attack occurred while the girl was walking to her friend’s house, when three unidentified youths on a motorcycle reportedly intercepted her, doused her with a flammable liquid, and set her on fire.
The location of the crime is around 5 to 7 kilometers from the Balanga police station. The heinous act has sparked widespread public anger, particularly in the wake of another recent tragedy involving a girl’s self-immolation in Balasore.
Locals acted swiftly, rescuing the girl and rushing her to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where she is currently undergoing critical treatment.
Taking immediate note of the incident, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida instructed police to ensure quick arrest of all those involved.
“The culprits will not be spared. Strict action will follow. The state government will bear the full cost of the girl’s medical treatment,” she said, assuring that she would personally visit the hospital to meet the victim.
Police have launched an intensive investigation, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the attackers.
