Bhubaneswar- In a move to accelerate its journey towards a knowledge-based and sustainable economy, the Odisha government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIM-Sambalpur to develop the state’s first comprehensive bio-economy report. The agreement was formalized at Kharvel Bhawan in the presence of Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, signaling the state’s growing emphasis on biotechnology as a key driver of economic growth.
The initiative aims to assess Odisha’s current position in the biotechnology landscape while identifying untapped opportunities, existing challenges, and sectoral strengths. By building a strong foundation for a bio-economy ecosystem, the state seeks to unlock new avenues for innovation, job creation, and investment.
The report will serve as a strategic blueprint to align Odisha’s bio-industrial goals with national priorities and global standards. It is expected to offer valuable direction to stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, and investors, by providing data-driven insights and actionable recommendations for the development of a thriving biotechnology sector.
Officials highlighted that this study could become a reference point for emerging bio-industries and a catalyst for integrating research with sustainable industrial practices. The collaboration with IIM-Sambalpur not only reinforces the state’s commitment to scientific advancement but also strengthens Odisha’s vision of becoming a hub for bio-based innovation and economic resilience.
