Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has set its sights on an ambitious production target of 50 million tonnes of minerals in the 2025-26 financial year, with a projected revenue goal of Rs30,000 crore. This strategic plan was discussed in detail during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The state-owned PSU is also focused on significantly boosting bauxite output, aiming to produce 3.6 million tonnes in 2025-26, with steps underway to increase that to 6 million tonnes in the following year. The review meeting placed strong emphasis on enhancing the state’s mineral output, especially bauxite, a critical component for aluminium production.
In a forward-looking move, OMC is planning to establish a pellet plant by May 2026 to add value to the extracted minerals. For this, a Government of India agency has been roped in to prepare a detailed techno-economic feasibility report, while a special committee has been constituted to oversee the project execution.
Chief Minister Majhi stressed the need for the OMC to actively contribute towards socio-economic development in mineral-rich regions. He called for integrating ongoing state schemes to generate employment and uplift living standards in these areas. A dedicated strategy will be prepared by OMC to focus on the holistic development of communities in mining zones.
The meeting was attended by key officials including Additional Chief Secretary of Steel & Mines Surendra Kumar, Principal Secretary to the CM Saswat Mishra, and senior OMC representatives.
