Bhubaneswar: In a major initiative to boost tourism, the Odisha Government has launched a luxury cruise service on Chilika Lake, inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida. This development is strategically timed ahead of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations, aiming to draw both domestic and international tourists to the state.
The new service features two state-of-the-art vessels, ‘Lake Queen’ and ‘Diamond Princess,’ offering passengers a chance to experience the serene beauty of Kalijai Island and the Nalabana Bird Sanctuary. Each vessel is equipped with air-conditioned cabins, onboard dining facilities, and other modern amenities, accommodating up to 40 guests.
Deputy CM Parida highlighted the significance of this initiative in boosting Odisha’s tourism sector. She stated, “Tourists can enjoy the breathtaking views of Kalijai Island and Nalabana Bird Sanctuary aboard these luxury cruises, which will undoubtedly elevate Odisha’s appeal as a tourist destination.”
This project is part of the Union Ministry of Tourism’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme and aligns with the state’s vision to establish itself as a premier tourism hub in India. The luxury cruise service is expected to attract a significant influx of visitors and contribute to the local economy.
The launch coincides with Odisha’s preparations for its first-ever Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, scheduled from January 8 to 10, 2025. This event will celebrate the contributions of the global Indian diaspora and is anticipated to draw large crowds from around the world.
By adding this unique offering to Chilika Lake’s attractions, Odisha aims to provide visitors with unforgettable experiences while cementing its reputation as a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
