Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is considering a groundbreaking initiative to encourage state legislators to adopt orphaned children, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced on Tuesday. While details of the program are still being finalized, Parida emphasized its potential to set a global example.
Currently, around 8,000 orphaned children are being cared for in 225 foster homes across the state under schemes like the state’s Mission Vatsalya and the central government’s PM CARES initiative. Parida highlighted that if each of the state’s MLAs adopted five children, over 600 lives could be significantly improved.
“These children possess remarkable talents in various fields and can grow into exemplary citizens with proper guidance and support,” she said. The initiative aims to inspire lawmakers to lead by example in transforming the lives of underprivileged children.
While the government is yet to finalize the proposal, efforts are underway to compile a list of eligible children to streamline the adoption process.
