Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Economic Survey 2024-25, presented in the State Assembly today, highlighted a significant expansion in the state’s economy. The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) at current prices is estimated to reach ₹9.5 lakh crore in the 2024-25 fiscal year, marking a 10% rise from ₹8.6 lakh crore in 2023-24.

In real terms, Odisha’s economy is projected to grow at 7.2% in 2024-25, surpassing the national GDP growth rate of 6.4%. The state’s per capita income has also seen a notable rise of 10.6%, reaching ₹1,82,548, though it remains 8.8% lower than the national average of ₹2,00,162.

Agriculture remains a strong pillar of Odisha’s economy, with food grain production reaching an all-time high of 143 lakh metric tonnes (MT) in 2023-24, up from 116.9 lakh MT in 2019-20. The state continues to solidify its position as the fifth-largest rice producer in the country, contributing 8% to India’s total rice output. Rice production alone has increased from 97.6 lakh MT in 2019-20 to 115.4 lakh MT in 2023-24.

Additionally, Odisha has emerged as the seventh-largest vegetable producer in India, with a 5.2% share in the country’s total vegetable output.

The economic survey paints a promising picture for Odisha’s growth, positioning the state as a key contributor to India’s agricultural and economic progress.

The survey report claimed that Odisha is the seventh largest vegetable producer in the country with 5.2 per cent share in the total vegetable production.
