Cuttack: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the Centre for Judicial Archives at the High Court of Orissa on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in preserving the judicial history of the state and the nation.
The event was graced by Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, and other dignitaries.
In his keynote address, CM Majhi highlighted the global recognition of the Indian judiciary and emphasized that the new Centre would serve as a custodian of judicial records and cultural heritage. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the initiative with financial, administrative, and technological assistance.
Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh called the Judicial Archives the first of its kind in India and a tribute to Cuttack, Odisha’s judicial capital. He stated that the Centre would safeguard historical legal records and contribute to understanding the evolution of the legal system.
Built at an estimated cost of ₹38 crore, the Centre boasts modern facilities for storing fragile documents and performing archival functions.
Law Minister Harichandan termed the inauguration a historic day for Odisha’s judiciary and the legal fraternity nationwide. He lauded the Orissa High Court’s role in upholding constitutional values and described the Centre as a monument to the judiciary’s rich legacy, housing priceless legal documents and landmark judgments that chronicle the state’s legal journey.
