New York: The Washington National Opera was looking for a designer to do justice to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s eye for fashion while paying her homage in the form of an opera. Justice Ginsburg, who died in 2020, was an opera aficionado and was also finely attuned to fashion.
Odisha born, New York-based Bibhu Mohapatra who has designed clothes for former first lady Michelle Obama and the actress Gwyneth Paltrow, was a natural choice.
Beginning today, (November 6), “Come Home: A Celebration of Return,” will run at the Kennedy Center till November 16. It involves marquee opera singers like David Butt Phillip and Isabel Leonard performing songs that play on themes loosely related to Justice Ginsburg’s life and work: freedom, equality, perseverance.
