New Delhi: The Ministry of Ayush has taken a significant step forward in preserving India’s medicinal plant heritage and promoting public awareness by signing two important Memorandums of Understanding through the National Medicinal Plants Board. The signing ceremony took place at Nirman Bhawan in the presence of Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav, who hailed it as a vital stride towards a healthier and self-reliant India.
The first agreement was signed between the National Medicinal Plants Board and Pune-based IshVed-Bioplants Venture. This collaboration focuses on conserving the germplasm of rare, endangered, and threatened medicinal plants through advanced tissue culture techniques. The partnership aims to enhance the availability of such valuable plants to the Ayush sector, ensuring that conservation goes hand-in-hand with practical cultivation and sustainable use. Both sides will contribute their knowledge and resources to strengthen the ecosystem around medicinal plant development.
The second MoU was a three-way agreement among the National Medicinal Plants Board, the All India Institute of Ayurveda, and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Under this initiative, a National Medicinal Plants Garden will be established within the AIIMS campus. This garden is expected to serve as a hub for public education, showcasing the importance and uses of medicinal plants to patients, students, and visitors alike. The collaboration will also promote knowledge-sharing among the institutions to enhance research and public engagement.
These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to integrating traditional healing knowledge with scientific innovation. They are also aligned with the broader vision of making India a global leader in sustainable healthcare through its deep-rooted herbal heritage.
