Bhubaneswar- Bhubaneswar will host a significant national conference on August 29 and 30, bringing together the Chairpersons of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Committees from Parliament, various state assemblies, and Union Territories. In preparation for this event, a planning meeting was held today under the leadership of Speaker Smt. Surama Padhy. Attendees included Deputy Speaker Bhabanishankar Bhoi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, and Chief Whip Saroj Pradhan, who all shared well-thought-out suggestions regarding the arrangements.
According to discussions, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Dr. Harivansh are expected to attend, along with MPs and committee heads from across the country. Speaker Surama Padhy extended heartfelt thanks to the Lok Sabha Speaker for choosing Odisha to host such a prestigious national event. She noted that more than 250 delegates are expected to participate, and emphasized Odisha’s commitment to its core value of “Atithi Devo Bhava” — the guest is God — ensuring no lapses in hospitality or coordination.
The inaugural ceremony of this two-day event is expected to see participation from the Chief Minister, while the valedictory session is likely to be attended by the Governor. After the conclave, visiting dignitaries will also explore the heritage sites of Puri and Konark.
To oversee and monitor the event preparations, Lok Sabha Director Dr. Yamnam Arun Kumar, along with a high-level official committee, is currently touring Odisha. Senior officers from the Commissionerate Police, Parliamentary Affairs Department, Home Department, Finance, Tourism, Public Works, and Information and Public Relations Department were present at the preparation meeting. Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Raut and other senior officials also took part in the session to ensure seamless coordination for the upcoming national gathering.
