Nabarangpur (Odisha)- A 23-year-old woman’s tragic and suspicious death has sent shockwaves across Kosagumuda area in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district. What began as a routine evening turned into a nightmare when the young woman, who had stepped out near her home around 7:30 PM to relieve herself, never returned.
A frantic search by her family led to a chilling discovery — she was found lying unconscious beneath a mango tree not far from the road. She was rushed to the nearby Kosagumuda Medical Centre, but despite efforts, she succumbed while receiving treatment.
The woman’s family has alleged foul play, suspecting that she was raped and later poisoned by unknown miscreants. A formal complaint has been lodged with the local police, prompting an immediate investigation. A scientific team, supported by sniffer dogs, has been deployed to gather evidence from the spot.
Tension prevails in the village, with locals and relatives demanding swift justice. “She might have been gang-raped and murdered. We want those involved to be punished at the earliest,” said a grieving relative. Their anguish is shared by many in the community, who have expressed deep anger and called for strict action against the perpetrators.
As part of the investigation, a few local youths have been reportedly detained for questioning, although police have not made any official confirmation. The deceased’s body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for a post-mortem, which will clarify whether she was poisoned, strangled, or subjected to sexual assault.
Papadahandi SDPO Satyajit Kandankel assured that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly, and more information will be shared once facts are confirmed. Until then, a grieving family and a shocked community await justice for a life cruelly cut short.
