New Delhi- Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Maldives on Friday for a two-day official visit, shortly after concluding his trip to the United Kingdom. Upon landing at Velana International Airport, he received a cordial welcome from Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, joined by the nation’s key cabinet ministers including those of foreign affairs, defence, finance, and homeland security.
This visit, scheduled from July 25 to 26, comes at the invitation of President Muizzu. PM Modi’s presence is especially significant as he joins the Maldives in celebrating its 60th Independence Day, where he is attending as the Guest of Honour. The occasion also marks six decades of diplomatic relations between India and the Maldives-an enduring partnership that continues to grow stronger with time.
Modi’s visit to the Maldives follows a productive trip to the United Kingdom, where he held discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the Chequers country retreat. The meeting concluded with both leaders expressing optimism over the signing of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), a pact expected to elevate bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and employment generation.
