Mumbai, November 24: A day after the historic victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Mahayuti alliance—comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP—is deep in deliberations over the Chief Ministerial post. The partners are holding a series of strategic meetings with their MLA-elects on Sunday to elect legislative party leaders, paving the way for the next phase of governance.
NCP leader Ajit Pawar was unanimously elected as the Legislative Party Leader of his party at a meeting held at his official residence in Mumbai. Simultaneously, BJP’s core committee is convening at Devendra Fadnavis’ residence, while Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde has gathered the newly elected MLAs at a Bandra hotel.
On Monday, a crucial alliance meeting with all Mahayuti MLAs will finalize the decision on who will occupy the Chief Minister’s chair. The alliance’s resounding victory, securing 233 out of 288 seats, has reshaped the political landscape of Maharashtra, reducing the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to a mere 49 seats.
The BJP, emerging as the largest party with 132 seats, has positioned Devendra Fadnavis as a strong contender for the Chief Ministerial post, given his pivotal role in the party’s campaign success. Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, who bolstered his credentials as a Maratha leader with an 81% strike rate, also stands as a formidable candidate. Sources indicate that the final decision will involve consultations with BJP’s central leadership in Delhi.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, where Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister a decade ago. The event will witness the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent dignitaries, marking the beginning of a new political chapter in Maharashtra.
With the Mahayuti alliance firmly in control, Maharashtra is set to witness a new era of governance, driven by promises of stability, development, and a unified leadership vision. The state, however, eagerly awaits the official announcement of its next Chief Minister.
