New Delhi-In a significant and emotional development, Jagdeep Dhankhar has stepped down from his post as the Vice President of India, citing health concerns and the need to follow medical guidance. The resignation, which takes effect immediately, was submitted under Article 67(a) of the Indian Constitution.
Dhankhar, who assumed office in 2022 after serving as the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the nation’s top leadership and Parliamentarians in his resignation letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu. “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately,” he stated.
In his letter, Dhankhar acknowledged the unwavering support of President Murmu, describing their working relationship as “soothing and wonderful.” He extended warm thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers for their continued cooperation and guidance during his tenure. “The Prime Minister’s support has been invaluable, and I have learned immensely during my time in office,” he remarked.
His message also carried a strong note of appreciation for Members of Parliament. He noted that the warmth and trust extended by them would always remain etched in his heart. Reflecting on his journey as Vice President, Dhankhar called it a privilege to serve the nation during a period of historic growth and global recognition. “I am deeply thankful for the invaluable experiences and insights I have gained.
