New Delhi: India’s digital transformation continues to break records, with over 138.34 crore Aadhaar numbers generated and DigiLocker surpassing 37 crore users, the government announced on Sunday. DigiLocker, a key platform for secure digital document storage and verification, now holds 776 crore documents.
The country’s expansive Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing (DIKSHA) platform has facilitated 556.37 crore learning sessions, with nearly 18 crore course enrollments and over 14 crore completions. These figures highlight the platform’s growing role in revolutionizing education access.
UPI and Cloud Services Lead Digital Economy Growth
India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) remains a cornerstone of the digital economy, recording 15.48 billion transactions in November, with a transaction value of Rs 21.55 lakh crore—marking a 38% year-on-year (YoY) growth in volume and 24% growth in value. Projections suggest monthly UPI transactions could reach 25 billion by the end of 2025.
To meet the surging demands of public and private sectors, India’s data centre industry is rapidly expanding. The country’s IT load capacity, currently at 1,000 MW, is set for exponential growth. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has established advanced National Data Centres (NDC) in cities like Delhi, Pune, Bhubaneswar, and Hyderabad, supporting disaster recovery, cloud hosting, and storage needs for government ministries and PSUs.
Storage capabilities at these centres have scaled to approximately 100PB, and a new state-of-the-art Tier-III NDC is underway in Guwahati, with a capacity expandable from 200 to 400 racks. This centre, alongside the NDC-North East Region launched in 2020, is bridging digital divides and enhancing public services across the northeastern states.
Expanding Digital Public Services
Cloud services play a critical role, with over 300 government departments leveraging them for operations. Platforms like Government e-Marketplace (GeM), UMAN, and API SETU continue to streamline governance. Health initiatives such as Co-WIN and Aarogya Setu have been instrumental in vaccination campaigns and contact tracing efforts.
With innovations in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and cloud computing, India’s digital ecosystem is poised for sustained growth, ensuring robust public and private sector engagement.
