Kolkata- A shocking incident has emerged from the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C), where a male student has been arrested for allegedly raping a female student inside the boys’ hostel of the prestigious business school.
According to police officials, the incident occurred on Friday and came to light after the survivor lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Haridevpur Police Station. Based on her complaint, the accused was initially detained and later formally arrested.
As per the FIR, the woman was invited to the hostel under the pretext of attending a counselling session. During the visit, she was offered a drink that was allegedly laced with intoxicants. She reportedly lost consciousness soon after consuming it and later realized she had been sexually assaulted. The survivor also stated that the accused had threatened her with serious consequences if she spoke about the incident.
“The accused student was taken into custody the same night. A detailed investigation is currently underway to verify all claims and gather forensic evidence,” a senior police officer said.
This disturbing case has triggered concerns about safety and accountability even within elite academic institutions. It comes close on the heels of another alleged gangrape case reported from a law college in Kolkata just two weeks ago, raising urgent questions around campus security and student welfare across educational institutions in the city.
Authorities at IIM-Calcutta have not yet issued a public statement on the matter, but sources indicate that internal disciplinary proceedings may follow alongside the police investigation.
The case remains under active investigation as law enforcement gathers further statements and evidence.
