Puri: As Odisha gears up to host the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10, the event is drawing notable Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to the state. Among the highlights of their visit is the opportunity to explore Puri, a renowned spiritual and tourist destination adorned with vibrant decorations. The district is also hosting a beach festival starting January 9, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
On Monday, Vanisa Dhiru, a prominent NRI from New Zealand, became the first international visitor to seek blessings at the iconic Shree Jagannath Temple (Srimandir) in Puri. Dhiru holds esteemed positions, including New Zealand National Commissioner to UNESCO, Library and Information Advisory Commissioner, and board member of Global Women New Zealand. She is also a vocal advocate for ethnic and gender rights and serves as a Justice of the Peace in New Zealand.
Dhiru’s visit to Odisha is part of her participation in the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations. She was warmly received at the temple by Additional Collector Nilamadhaba Bhoi, Additional Sub Collector Nilamadhaba Majhi, and Srimandir Public Relations Officer Jitendra Kumar Mohanty. The officials guided her through the sacred temple and the ongoing Parikrama project, which enhances the temple’s surroundings.
Expressing her gratitude, Dhiru shared her joy in experiencing the spiritual aura of Mahaprabhu Jagannath. She thanked the Odisha government and district administration for their hospitality, calling it a memorable and divine experience.
