Kandhamal( Odisha)- In a significant success for anti-Maoist operations, security forces have recovered a substantial stockpile of explosives buried deep within the Gumma forest region of Kandhamal district.
The operation was launched under the supervision of Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Harisha B.C., following a credible intelligence tip-off about the suspected presence of explosives. A dedicated team from the District Voluntary Force (DVF), accompanied by a bomb disposal squad, initiated a thorough search in the dense forest under Kotgarh police limits.
The bomb squad meticulously sanitized the area, scanning for possible booby traps or pressure bombs before excavation. During the combing, the team unearthed 600 detonators and a remote-control triggering device, indicating a possible plan to target security personnel deployed in the ongoing anti-Naxal operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosives were likely stockpiled by Maoist elements to launch attacks on police and paramilitary forces operating in the region.
Search operations are continuing in the surrounding terrain to detect any additional hidden caches or suspect activity. Security has been intensified, and surveillance increased to prevent any retaliatory action or further attempts at sabotage.
The latest recovery underscores the persistent threat posed by Maoist insurgents in interior Odisha and the critical importance of sustained intelligence-led operations in curbing their influence.
