Puri (Odisha)- Following confirmation of bird flu in Bada Ankula village under Delang block, the Puri district administration has declared three surrounding areas as restricted zones and initiated strict containment measures.
The outbreak was confirmed after samples tested at the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal detected the presence of the avian influenza virus. Acting swiftly, officials have banned the movement and export of poultry from Delang to other parts of the district to prevent further spread.
“Infected birds pose a significant risk to nearby poultry farms and human health. Around 6,500 chickens in the affected area will be culled immediately, and surveillance will continue within a 10-kilometre radius of the outbreak site,” stated Dr. Somnath Das, Block Veterinary Officer of Delang.
The administration has urged residents and poultry farmers to remain vigilant and report any unusual bird deaths. Special teams have been deployed to monitor the situation and ensure proper disposal and sanitation practices are followed.
Authorities continue to assess the situation while taking all necessary steps to contain the outbreak and protect public health.
