Bhubaneswar: Odisha has completed all preparations for the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll, marking a major step towards strengthening the state’s election system. With the process now finalised, the total number of polling booths in the state has increased to nearly 43,000 following the addition of around 7,000 new centres.

The Special Intensive Revision exercise, which has been underway for the last five months, was carried out to ensure that every eligible voter is accurately included in the electoral roll while also improving polling infrastructure across the state ahead of upcoming elections. Officials said the initiative focuses on both updating voter data and making the voting process more accessible, particularly for people living in rural and remote regions.

This large- scale revision is being undertaken for the first time in Odisha since 2002, making it one of the most comprehensive updates to the voter list in over two decades. The exercise is widely seen as a crucial move to enhance transparency, inclusiveness and public confidence in the electoral process.

Election authorities stated that the revised voter database will help remove duplication, correct inaccuracies and reduce errors, ensuring that no eligible voter is left out. With the groundwork now complete, Odisha is poised to move into the next phase of the electoral process with improved facilities, better reach and a more reliable and inclusive voter roll.
