Bargarh ( Odisha)– On the occasion of Sambalpuri Day, the Bargarh Mahila Samiti made a heartfelt appeal to include the Sambalpuri language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Emphasizing the language’s richness in literature and culture, the forum called on both state and central governments to act without further delay.
The demand was raised during a special event organized on Friday evening, presided over by Anjana Das. The gathering unanimously passed a resolution urging elected representatives to protect the linguistic identity of western Odisha and to take this issue forward in both the State Assembly and the Parliament.
The event witnessed the presence of Social worker Ms Labanga Sahu as Chief Guest, Professor Umesh Chandra Mahapatra from Panchayat College as Speaker, and the Samiti’s advisor Sardar Pritam Singh as the guest of honor. The speakers elaborated on the importance and cultural depth of the Sambalpuri language, stressing the vital role of women in preserving regional language, literature, and heritage.
Mandakini Pati introduced the guests, Padmini Sahu conducted the proceedings, and Mamata Mishra delivered the vote of thanks. The program saw active participation and coordination by Jayanti, Jayagita, Pranati, Sasmita, Ruby, Swadhini, Sunita, Anima, Rinu, and Radharani, whose efforts made the celebration impactful and memorable.
