New Delhi- The Government of India is preparing to include “Mission LiFE” (Lifestyle for Environment) in school education to promote environmental responsibility and climate awareness among students from a young age. Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change have initiated discussions to make this a part of the formal curriculum.
Once implemented, the mission will reach over 30 crore students across 14.7 lakh schools in India. The integration aims to inspire a mass movement encouraging sustainable living habits and climate-friendly practices in daily life.
In a key meeting in New Delhi, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav agreed on collaborating to align Mission LiFE with the National Education Policy. Pradhan emphasized that environmental education and climate literacy are essential components of the NEP and must be woven into the school experience, from Balvatika to higher classes, through practical programs and campaigns.
The initiative will involve gamification, digital tools, teacher handbooks, and credit-based frameworks to encourage eco-conscious behavior. DIETs (District Institutes of Education and Training) will also be included in developing and spreading the program. The effort is expected to shape young minds toward a sustainable and responsible future.
