Cuttack- President Droupadi Murmu, during her visit to Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, graced the convocation ceremony and celebrated the historic institution’s profound legacy in shaping Odisha’s and India’s academic, social, and political journey.
Addressing the gathering of students, scholars, and faculty, President Murmu reflected on Ravenshaw’s pivotal role in the Indian freedom movement and its instrumental support for Odisha’s statehood aspirations. She hailed the university as a breeding ground of visionary leaders—freedom fighters, intellectuals, policymakers, scientists, and artists—whose contributions continue to inspire generations.
Commending the institution’s modern advancements, the President particularly highlighted Ravenshaw’s notable strides in research and its growing involvement in industrial collaboration through consultancy and technology transfer. She lauded the efforts of the ‘Centre of Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ for nurturing innovation, startup culture, and translational research among students.
Emphasizing the need for equitable education, President Murmu appreciated the university’s initiatives to include students from tribal communities, economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and those with disabilities. “Inclusive education is the backbone of an empowered and equitable society,” she said, reinforcing the importance of equal opportunity in national development.
She noted that India is currently experiencing a transformative phase, or *Amrit Kaal*, aiming for developed nation status by 2047. In this context, she encouraged the youth to adopt a “Nation First” mindset, drawing inspiration from the dedication of India’s soldiers, scientists, engineers, farmers, and doctors. “Your knowledge, talent, and determination must be tools for nation-building,” she urged the graduating students.
President Murmu also addressed the rapid evolution of technology and its impact on society. While applauding Ravenshaw’s embrace of cutting-edge domains like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, and 3D Printing, she also advised students to use these advancements responsibly, ensuring they are harnessed for societal good.
In a significant gesture for girls’ education, President Murmu later laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three buildings at Ravenshaw Girls’ High School. She praised both Central and State governments for investing in educational infrastructure, especially for girls, and expressed confidence that improved facilities would enhance the learning environment.
Pointing to the consistent academic excellence of girl students at convocations across the country, she remarked, “When given equal chances, girls not only rise — they shine.” She encouraged young girls to aim high, inspired by the achievements of women leaders in fields ranging from education and literature to science, commerce, and technology.
President Murmu’s visit was a powerful affirmation of Ravenshaw’s legacy and its continuing journey toward academic excellence, social inclusion, and nation-building.
