Bhubaneswar- In a touching and unscheduled gesture of compassion, President Droupadi Murmu visited the severely injured FM Autonomous College student at AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s Burn Unit on Monday. The young woman, who had attempted self-immolation over alleged harassment, remains in a critical condition and is on ventilator support.

President Murmu, who was in the city to attend the convocation ceremony at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, made time to visit the student despite it not being part of her official itinerary. She was accompanied by Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, both of whom also expressed concern for the victim’s health.

According to sources, the President personally enquired about the medical treatment being administered and discussed the patient’s condition in detail with AIIMS Bhubaneswar Director and Burn Unit head Dr. Sanjay Giri. Her presence at the Burn ICU was a clear reflection of the seriousness with which the incident is being viewed at the highest levels of government.

The student’s health condition remains unchanged, AIIMS Superintendent Dr. Dilip Kumar Parida informed. She continues to be on life support in the ICU, suffering from severe burns that have also caused damage to her kidneys, lungs, and electrolyte balance.

A dedicated team of eight senior doctors from departments including nephrology, critical care, surgery, pulmonology, and anaesthesia has been constituted to monitor her health around the clock. Dialysis was initiated on Sunday due to kidney failure, and further sessions will be administered based on her ongoing clinical condition.

The President’s visit has brought national attention to the tragic case, reinforcing the demand for justice and accountability. As the young student fights for her life, the state and central governments have pledged all possible support, with investigations ongoing and public sentiment demanding swift and fair action.
