Bhubaneswar- In a major step towards justice for small investors duped by chit fund scams, the Odisha government has significantly accelerated the refund process, ensuring quicker compensation and greater transparency.
Acting on the directive of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the state has decentralised and streamlined its refund mechanism. As a result, over the past year alone, Rs 47.07 crore has been disbursed to 1,26,137 affected individuals—bringing long-awaited relief to families who lost their hard-earned savings in fraudulent schemes.
This marks a sharp contrast to the previous decade, during which only Rs 119 crore had been returned to 2,79,109 victims between 2014 and 2024. The sluggish progress had left many in distress, waiting for justice for years.
Now, the state’s new approach—empowering district-level authorities and improving process efficiency—has led to a quicker turnaround in fund disbursement. The Chief Minister has further committed to compensating an additional 5 lakh small investors in the next 3 to 4 months, reinforcing the government’s dedication to resolving one of the state’s most troubling financial scandals.
Officials believe this proactive initiative will not only restore economic confidence among the affected but also reinforce public trust in the state’s governance. For thousands of families across Odisha, the long wait for justice is finally coming to an end.
