Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his ambitious vision for the state, stating that Odisha is on track to become a developed state by 2036. Speaking to media on Saturday, Majhi emphasized that with a “double-engine government” – referring to the state and central governments working together – Odisha is poised for rapid growth.
Majhi highlighted the central government’s focus on Odisha, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisioning the state as a critical player in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047. The Chief Minister underscored the strategic steps being taken to attract investments and boost industrial growth, positioning Odisha as a key driver of economic progress.
During the recent two-day visit of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Odisha signed eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Singapore government. These agreements span sectors like urban planning, port management, logistics, green energy, and skill development. Majhi revealed that the state expects investments of approximately Rs5,000 crore through these initiatives.
One major project announced is the establishment of a green hydrogen plant in Paradip, a significant step towards sustainable energy. “The discussions with the Singapore delegation were fruitful, paving the way for Odisha to emerge as a preferred destination for global investors,” Majhi said.
Majhi detailed efforts by high-level state delegations, which conducted roadshows in major cities like New Delhi and Mumbai to attract investors. These initiatives have already garnered interest from prominent industrial houses. According to the Chief Minister, the state’s single-window clearance mechanism has facilitated over Rs2.5 lakh crore in investments so far, with expectations to exceed Rs5 lakh crore through the upcoming ‘Utkarsha Odisha-Make in Odisha’ initiative.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Odisha will rank among India’s top five developed states in the near future. “We aim to make Odisha prosperous by 2036, aligning our progress with the state’s centenary celebrations. Our government is committed to transforming Odisha into an industrial and economic powerhouse,” he said.
Majhi criticized the previous administration led by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for what he described as a period of stagnation and underdevelopment. He asserted that his government is prioritizing infrastructure development, industrial growth, and job creation to unlock the state’s full potential.
The Chief Minister concluded by emphasizing that the state’s partnerships with international stakeholders, such as Singapore, will catalyze Odisha’s transformation. He noted that Odisha’s progress is being closely watched, with other states now looking to replicate its collaborative model.
With these developments, Odisha is charting a new course, setting ambitious targets for investment, infrastructure, and economic growth, paving the way to becoming a developed state by 2036.
