Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to make a significant mark on India’s aviation map as the state government intensifies its efforts to establish the region as a key hub for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. Aiming to align with the vision of a developed Odisha under the “Viksit Odisha” initiative, the state is laying the groundwork for a robust aviation ecosystem driven by innovation, infrastructure, and industrial growth.
In a high-level consultation meeting organized by the Commerce and Transport Department, key stakeholders and industry leaders convened to discuss strategies for positioning Odisha as a preferred destination for MRO facilities. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and attended by Principal Secretary of Commerce and Transport Usha Padhee, along with representatives from prominent organizations such as GMR Group, Safran, Star Air, and Max Aerospace.
The discussions focused on creating a policy framework under the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022 that would attract MRO operators, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and airlines to invest in Odisha. Emphasis was placed on making the state an investor-friendly destination with policies that support infrastructure development and skill enhancement.
Chief Secretary Ahuja highlighted the state’s proactive approach, stating that Odisha is poised to become a leader in India’s aviation sector. He underscored the importance of tailored policies and incentives, such as skill development programs, to empower local talent and ensure sustained industrial growth.
Principal Secretary Usha Padhee elaborated on Odisha’s strategic advantage, particularly its leadership in aluminum production and its industrial ecosystem, which positions the state as an ideal location for world-class MRO facilities. She announced significant incentives, including a 30% capital subsidy for MRO investments, as well as collaborations with global partners such as the Government of Singapore to adopt best practices in aviation and MRO operations.
The consultation also explored opportunities for global partnerships, sustainability initiatives, and workforce development strategies to create a skilled talent pool for the aviation sector. Strategic locations such as Jharsuguda, Bhubaneswar, and Puri airports were identified as pivotal to the state’s aviation ambitions.
With its favorable policies, abundant resources, and strategic location, Odisha is emerging as a promising hub for aviation growth. This initiative not only reinforces the state’s commitment to industrial advancement and employment creation but also positions Odisha as a key player in strengthening India’s aviation infrastructure on a global scale.
