Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards improving the welfare of its citizens, the Odisha government has announced an enhanced pension allowance under its social security scheme. This progressive decision was finalized during a state cabinet meeting held on Friday, reflecting the government’s commitment to providing better support for vulnerable populations.
Under the revised guidelines, the monthly pension for individuals aged 80 years and above, as well as for persons with disabilities (PwDs) possessing 80% or higher disability, will be increased to ₹3,500. This marks a substantial rise from the earlier amount of ₹1,200, signifying a notable enhancement in financial aid for these groups.
The new pension structure will be implemented across two major schemes: the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana and the National Social Assistance Programme. According to a press release issued by the government, the revised pension amount will come into effect starting January 2025, ensuring timely benefits for eligible beneficiaries.
This decision underscores the Odisha government’s focus on inclusive growth and its proactive approach to addressing the needs of senior citizens and differently-abled individuals. By increasing financial assistance, the government aims to alleviate economic hardships and improve the quality of life for these vulnerable sections of society.
The move has been widely appreciated by welfare organizations and citizens alike, as it highlights the state’s dedication to fostering a more equitable and supportive environment for all.
