Rourkela: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela has secured a remarkable position in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, achieving 664th rank globally, 167th in Asia, and an impressive19th in India. Among the 78 Indian institutions featured in this prestigious list, NIT Rourkela stands out as the top-ranked NIT, demonstrating its leadership in sustainability and social responsibility.
This is a significant improvement from the previous year’s rankings, where the institute was ranked 676th globally and 21st in India. The QS Sustainability Rankings evaluate institutions based on their efforts to address critical environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges. This year’s rankings included nearly 1,800 universities worldwide, reflecting a highly competitive field.

These include: A weekly Clean Campus Swachhata Drive, which has completed 89 successful weeks. Active research and incubation of start-ups aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Campaigns promoting mental and physical health awareness among students and staff. A campus-wide plastic-free and plantation drive, significantly enhancing greenery. Good governance practices fostering transparency and community participation.
