Delhi: The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, informed the Rajya Sabha about the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM), launched in 2014, which aims to enhance AYUSH healthcare services across the country.
NAM focuses on providing holistic healthcare through AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres, emphasizing preventive and promotive health practices to reduce disease burden and out-of-pocket expenditure. The co-location of AYUSH facilities at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and District Hospitals (DHs) enables patients to access multiple systems of medicine under single window, promoting medical pluralism.
In line with the National Health Policy 2017, NAM highlights the role of AYUSH in public health and works to strengthen the infrastructure of AYUSH educational institutions. The scheme also facilitates the engagement and training of AYUSH doctors and paramedics under the National Health Mission (NHM), while the Ministry of AYUSH provides support for infrastructure, equipment, and medicines.
The mission represents a collaborative approach by the Ministries of AYUSH and Health & Family Welfare to integrate AYUSH principles into the national healthcare framework, ensuring comprehensive health services for the public.
