Bhubaneswar: The Centre has sanctioned a significant amount of Rs 73,723 crore for the development of railways in Odisha, marking a major milestone for the state’s infrastructure. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the approval.
As part of the developments, the new Rayagada railway division in Odisha has been given the green light, with a Rs 107 crore tender issued for the construction of the divisional office. This will add to the three existing railway divisions under the East Coast Railway. Additionally, 59 railway stations across the state will be redeveloped under the Amrut Station Scheme, enhancing the passenger experience.
In a broader context, during Prime Minister Modi’s third term, the Cabinet has approved eight major railway projects worth Rs 19,289 crore. These projects are expected to significantly boost the state’s rail connectivity and infrastructure, benefiting several regions. The approved projects include new railway lines connecting Gunupur to Therubali, Junagarh Road to Nabarangpur, Malkangiri to Pandurangapuram, Badampahad to Kendujhargarh, Bangiriposhi to Gorumahisani, Budamara to Chakulia, and Sardega to Bhalumuda, along with a new doubling line between Bargarh Road and Nuapada Road.
The approved routes include a new corridor connecting major cities and towns, aimed at easing transportation and facilitating better access to markets and services. This initiative is also expected to boost local development, create employment opportunities, and enhance the efficiency of goods and passenger transportation in the region.
These new railway lines are part of a broader initiative to upgrade India’s railway infrastructure and meet the growing demand for an efficient transportation network. Overall, this development will significantly contribute to Odisha’s economic and infrastructure progress, strengthening the state’s position as a critical part of India’s transportation network.
Railway Minister Vaishnaw also held discussions with Odisha’s MPs, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, to further align the state’s railway development plans with the broader national infrastructure vision.
