Bhubaneswar: A total of 594 Odisha government employees have been arrested for accepting bribes over the past five years, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed in the Legislative Assembly today. Responding to a question by MLA Kadraka Appala Swamy, the Chief Minister highlighted the vigilance efforts undertaken by the state.
Between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, the Vigilance Department registered 447 cases against government officials for corruption, leading to arrests. During the same period, judicial proceedings for 911 vigilance cases were concluded.
Among these, 30 cases specifically pertained to government employees arrested for bribery. Of these cases, 11 individuals were convicted by various Vigilance Courts, while 12 were acquitted. Seven cases were closed due to the demise of the accused during the trial.
The figures underline the Odisha government’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption within its administration, with the Vigilance Department playing a crucial role in maintaining accountability.
